One dead and multiple injured after vehicle hits crowd at Berlin pride event
Berlin is devastated after a van crashed into a crowd at its annual Christopher Street Day Pride parade, with one person dead and more than a dozen others injured.
Police ordered thousands of people who attended the parade to leave the area.
Authorities said several people have life-threatening injuries and are being treated by emergency services.
Before the incident, thousands of people were seen peacefully celebrating the parade — marching through the city, dancing to music and cheering the dozens of floats riding by.
At around 10pm, a white van drove into the crowd in the Berlin Tiergarten. The van was later found abandoned at the scene with heavy damage.
The event was cancelled halfway through a band’s on-stage performance, with an ‘EVACUATE!’ sign flashing up on the screens behind them.
Berlin police are searching for suspects, saying they’re yet to know anything about the potential motives or identity of the perpetrator.
Authorities have vowed to punish the perpetrators of the attack, saying they will “make sure this horrific act is fully investigated”.
