Massive cargo aircraft deployed to quell Europe’s wildfires

Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu ordered the deployment of the A400M, an Airbus plane to help contain raging wildfires around the Cap Ferret peninsula, which have showed little sign of abating.
The A400M is capable of carrying 20 tonnes of fire retardant, equivalent to two Dash planes, an expert said on BFMTV.
Authorities have evacuated 197,000 people from southwestern France so far after fires encircled the Atlantic coast peninsula of Cap Ferret, a major tourist destination at the height of the summer season.
French President Emmanuel Macron has enlisted the military to support exhausted firefighters battling a catastrophic tapestry of fires across the country, following a record-breaking heatwave that resulted in nearly 6000 excess deaths.
