Prosecutors to consider charges as police end investigation into Kumanjayi White’s death

NT Police say they have received the autopsy results of 24-year-old Warlpiri man Kumanjayi White, and have now handed over evidence to prosecutors to determine whether charges should be laid against any of the officers involved.
The cause of White’s death is still unknown more than three months after he passed away after being restrained by police on the floor of a Coles supermarket in Mparntwe/Alice Springs on 27 May.
In late August, NT Police said inquiries into White’s passing were at an “advanced state”, and they were waiting for pathology results from interstate to determine the official cause of death because the initial autopsy was inconclusive.
When asked why the process has taken so long, acting NT Police commissioner Martin Dole restated they were waiting for medical advice.
