Berlin Pride attack suspect shot dead by police

The suspect in the Berlin Pride attack that left one person dead and 29 injured was shot and killed by police during a confrontation overnight, according to German police.

Abdul Ballout, a 21-year-old German citizen, was suspected of driving a van into a crowd near Berlin’s Pride festival on Saturday night (local time) before apparently stabbing others with a machete.

The suspect had been known to the authorities for a “high number” of previous crimes and was believed to have been radicalised.
