Beaufort Castle: why Israel seized a Crusader-era fortress in Lebanon
Israel’s capture of Lebanon’s almost 900-year-old Beaufort Castle has placed one of the Middle East’s most storied fortresses back at the centre of a regional conflict.

Granted enhanced protection by UNESCO during the recent conflict, it remains one of the rare fortresses whose military value has endured from the medieval era to the modern battlefield.
