‘We owe her’: Trump hails cancer-battling Susie Wiles at Woman of Valor award gala

US President Donald Trump has paid tribute to White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles during a heartfelt video message honouring the cancer-battling strategist after she received the Woman of Valor Award in Washington, DC.

Wiles accepted the Barbara K. Olson Woman of Valor Award at the Independent Women’s Forum gala on Thursday,
where she revealed she was diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer just nine weeks ago.

In a surprise pre-recorded message, Trump praised Wiles’ “courage and toughness”, saying she was “winning” her battle with cancer “decisively”.

“We owe her a tremendous debt,” Trump said, while also calling Wiles one of the best White House chiefs of staff “ever in history”.

Wiles, the first female White House chief of staff in US history, said she continues to work every day despite the diagnosis and wanted to set an example for those around her.

“This is the path God chose for me. And I’m here, doing the best I can every day,” Wiles said during an onstage conversation at the awards night held at the Waldorf Astoria.
