Rise in racism leading some migrants to fear for their safety
A rise in public incidents of racism has some people from migrant communities fearing for their safety.
SBS spoke with migrants who say they have experienced more frequent racial abuse, particularly on public transport.
Siddhant Acharya moved to Australia from Mumbai in 2020. He says since then, he’s faced a barrage of racist slurs.
“A lady came up to me, and she just came really close to my face, and she said, ‘You should really go back to your country’,” Acharya said.
He told SBS that similar incidents occur at least once a month.
