Domain says rapid rental growth has come to an end in most cities | The Business | ABC NEWS
Listings company Domain says Australia’s rental market is showing signs of stabilisation, with house rents flatlining across combined capitals for five consecutive quarters – the longest period of stability since 2014-2016. Unit rents have followed suit, remaining flat for two consecutive quarters. However, Nicola Powell, Domain’s chief of research and economics, explains that Brisbane and Darwin continued to see rental rises, due to factors like infrastructure, investment, and job creation. In Brisbane’s case, Dr Powell expects prices for rents will continue to grow ahead of the Olympics. But overall, Nicola Powell believes affordability issues will restrain rent price growth despite ongoing low vacancy rates.
