Why does the US want Greenland? | ABC NEWS
This week the White House said in a statement that Mr Trump saw acquiring the country as a US national security priority necessary to “deter our adversaries in the Arctic region”.
“The president and his team are discussing a range of options to pursue this important foreign policy goal, and of course, utilising the US military is always an option at the commander-in-chief’s disposal,” the White House said.
Donald Trump’s talk about taking over Greenland is designed to pressure Denmark into doing a deal with the US, Secretary of State Marco Rubio has reportedly said behind the scenes.
According to an exclusive report in the Wall Street Journal, Mr Rubio said that Mr Trump’s tough talk about possible US military action is aimed at pushing Denmark to negotiate a sale.
