Ed Sheeran has apologised after Macklemore was dropped from his tour over his comments on the Israel-Palestine conflict.
Sheeran read from a teleprompter during a concert sharing his stance on the issue.
“I’ve had to make difficult decisions, and I am making mistakes, and I’m so, so sorry. I don’t want to disappoint fans, and I’ve never wanted to be an activist musician, but this has put me in the middle of an important and passionate argument about freedom of speech and the most complex political issue on the planet,” Sheeran said.
The Ed Sheeran-Macklemore incident has prompted wider conversations around whether celebrities are obligated to speak out on global issues.
Many Hollywood celebrities have spoken out in support of Israel, including Gal Gadot, Debra Messing, Amy Schumer, Jerry Seinfeld and Michael Douglas.
