‘Very misogynistic’: Albanese under fire over crude ‘melons’ joke targeting Japanese PM

News24 host Rita Panahi accuses Prime Minister Anthony Albanese of misogyny after he made a crude joke about Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s “melons”.

“It’s one thing to mock; it’s mocking in a very misogynistic, sexist way. You wouldn’t say that about a male leader because you’re not going to be making jokes about melons,” Ms Panahi said.

“The Japanese are all about not losing face, about respect, and to treat the leader of the country in that manner just to make some cheap juvenile jokes on some podcast … this is arguably going to have far greater repercussions.”
