Unauthorised Sydney protest descends into violence

Tensions erupted on Monday evening when an estimated 6000 people took to the streets of Sydney’s CBD to protest against visiting Israeli President Isaac Herzog.
The demonstration, organised by the Palestine Action Group (PAG), went ahead despite the NSW Supreme Court’s rejection of an urgent bid to strip police of enhanced powers during the leader’s contentious visit.
Twenty-seven people were arrested at the protest, including 10 for allegedly assaulting police.
The Palestine Action Group is planning a second protest – this one against police brutality – in Sydney on Tuesday evening.
