UK youth parliamentarian’s message for young people

Member of UK Youth Parliament Shiven Kumar called on young people to fight for a “brighter future” during the annual session in the House of Commons on Thursday.

“Throw away the barriers that hold us back, cast aside the blockades in our future and pave the way to a world we deserve,” he said.

British youth parliamentarians, aged 11 to 18, debated a range of topics from housing to climate change and public transport.

Established in 1999, the UK Youth Parliament is made up of over 300 members, elected every two years to represent the views of their peers. Elections often take place in local schools across the country.
