Two seriously injured as passenger train derails in southeast England

Two people suffered serious injuries and nine others were hurt when a London commuter train derailed near Lewes in East Sussex on Thursday.

British Transport Police declared a major incident after the derailment, confirming about 150 passengers were safely evacuated.

Footage from the derailment site near Lewes showed at least three overturned carriages on their sides as paramedics attended the scene.

Rail officials and investigators in reflective vests walked along the railway line and inside carriages to assess damage from the crash.
