Anthony Albanese reveals details of overnight call with Donald Trump

Anthony Albanese has held a “productive and constructive” phone call with US President Donald Trump overnight, during which the Prime Minister called for an end to tariffs on Australian exports.
The White House and the Prime Minister’s office confirmed the phone call took place early on Friday morning, and the discussion of AUKUS, trade and tariffs on the agenda.
“I did raise this issue. I always put forward Australia’s national interest during these discussions, and the ask I made of the President was that he consider full exemption,’’ Mr Albanese said.
“The President, of course, has a different position, that he has expressed many times, but I did ask that Australia’s position as a friend of the United States be considered. The President agreed he would give consideration to my request.”
The Prime Minister held an early morning press conference in Canberra, outlining the contents of the phone call.
