The conflict between the US and Iran has become a battle for control of the Strait of Hormuz
Iran has declared the waterway is again closed, while Donald Trump says the US is reinstating its naval blockade.
The US President has backed down on his plans to impose a 20 per cent fee on cargo ships transiting through the strait, saying he doesn’t like “the concept of a fee”.
A levy on the Strait of Hormuz would go against international maritime laws, but one shipping analyst has noted the last time the world saw a toll on a vital shipping lane, the US stepped in to stop it.
