Trump says US ‘winning’ in negotiations with Iran; Iran says talks ‘are not ordinary’
United States President Donald Trump joked about the recent attempt on his life, appearing to use it as a segue to talk about US negotiations with Iran while addressing a crowd at The Villages — a community for people over the age of 55 in central Florida.
Trump said that following the attempted assassination, he “should be in a secure facility” where he could “safely play out my term, destroying everything that comes in” in the US’ way like “bad countries that want to get nuclear weapons”, referring to Iran.
He told the crowd that Iran “wasn’t coming through with the kind of deal” the US had to have.
“… and we’re going to get this thing done properly. We’re not going to leave early and then have the problem arise in three more years,” he said.
During a television interview a day earlier, Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said US-Iran negotiations were “not conventional”.
He said the US “expected to impose its maximum demands during negotiations”, adding the negotiations had “a very bloody background”.
Baghaei also denied that Iran had any nuclear weapons.
