Starmer heckled during Golders Green visit after stabbing incident
The UK’s terror threat level has been raised from “substantial” to “severe” following the stabbings of two Jewish men in Golders Green, a suburb home to a large Jewish population in London.
The new threat level is the second-highest on the country’s five-point scale.
The knifing, declared by police a “terrorist incident”, followed several arson attacks targeting Jewish sites in the British capital in recent weeks.
Responding to the incident, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer visited Golders Green, where he was met with protests and heckles.
He also announced a series of new measures to counter antisemitism, including more funding for Jewish community-led security services, potential actions on pro-Palestinian marches and a ban on “hate preachers” entering the UK.
He urged the country “to open their eyes to Jewish pain, Jewish suffering, and Jewish fear”.
Police have charged suspect Essa Suleiman, a 45-year-old British national born in Somalia, with two counts of attempted murder.
The two victims, aged 76 and 34, are in a stable condition.
