Trump confirms: Iran’s supreme leader dead | ABC NEWS
The US and Israel launched strikes on Iran, and say they have killed Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. They are urging Iran’s citizens to take the opportunity to topple the regime.
Iran has retaliated by launching missiles towards Israel, which says it is under sustained attack.
Iran is also firing at US allies and partners in the region. Iranian strikes killed two people in Iraq and one in the UAE, according to officials in those countries.
The UN Security Council has met in New York. UN Secretary-General António Guterres has condemned the US-Israeli strikes and Iran’s retaliatory action, and called for hostilities to end.
European leaders are planning emergency meetings on Sunday and Monday.
