Thousands flee Thai-Cambodia border after deadly clashes
Thailand and Cambodia have traded accusations of targeting civilians in artillery and rocket attacks, with clashes raging at more than a dozen locations along their 817km border.
Thailand’s army has made clear it wants to cripple Cambodia’s military capabilities, with Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul saying Thai operations would not stop.
He declined to comment on the military’s endgame. Cambodian government spokesperson Pen Bona said their position was one of peace and self-defence.
A top adviser to Cambodia’s prime minister has signalled the country was ready to negotiate.
SBS News International Correspondent Claudia Farhart spoke with civilians stuck in an evacuation centre in Thailand who say, despite living on the border all their lives, they’ve never experienced violence like this.
