Syrian government advances against Kurdish forces despite ceasefire | ABC NEWS
Fighting has continued in Syria as the country’s government continues its push to regain territory that has long been under Kurdish control.
The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) had previously held a quarter of the country’s total area before government forces’ recent advances.
Kurdish militants have been forced to destroy bridges to slow the advance, while prisons holding Islamic State fighters were reportedly under attack.
Syrian Kurds are calling on people of Greater Kurdistan in Iraq, Turkiye and Iran to come to their aid.
US Special Envoy for Syria Thomas Joseph Barrack has signalled Washington’s shift in attitude towards their Kurdish allies, saying the SDF’s role of deterring IS had finished with the US seeking to cement ties with the new government in Damascus.
