According to the World Health Organization a suspected hantavirus outbreak on a cruise ship in the Atlantic Ocean has killed three people and at least three others have needed medical attention. Humans can catch hantaviruses through contact with infected mice or rats or their droppings, being bitten or by inhaling contaminated dust. Dr Amesh Adalja is an infectious disease expert and senior scholar at the Johns Hopkins University Center for Health Security, and he told The World’s Yvonne Yong how the virus is transmitted to humans.
