A group of six Australian women and children have smuggled themselves out of Syria and returned to Australia after years of being stranded.
The cohort, who travelled or were taken to Syria as partners of Islamic State members, escaped without Commonwealth assistance.
There is a push for around 40 people who remain in Syria to be repatriated after the collapse of the Assad regime.
