‘Shift some public money’: Calls for government to increase flood prevention funding
Former Labor councillor Linda Scott discusses reasons the government must shift public funds into flood prevention mechanisms and specialised programs to address extreme weather disruptions.
“My solution is not to bash councils like James … James, around the country, councils are begging not to have to approve developments on flood plains,” Ms Scott told Sky News host Paul Murray.
“I do want to be really apolitical about this … we got the government to commit $100 million each year to prevent this kind of damage from hitting houses.
“They need to shift some of that public money back in the prevention.”
