Russia attacks Kyiv bridge as German chancellor makes visit
Drone alarms rang out in Kyiv as German Chancellor Friedrich Merz paid a visit to the Ukrainian capital. During his visit a drone struck Kyiv’s Northern Bridge, about 5km from where the chancellor was staying.
At a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Merz said Russia’s warnings and attacks would not deter him from visiting Ukraine.
Merz called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to end his forces’ attacks on Ukraine and show willingness to negotiate, saying strikes on civilians must stop.
Russia has been attacking Kyiv’s bridges since last week in an attempt to disrupt links between the capital’s two banks and logistics routes between central and eastern Ukraine.
