Riot squad to carry long-arm weapons at NYE celebrations

New South Wales Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon announces that the Australian public order and riot squad will be carrying long-arm weapons whilst working the NYE celebrations.

“NSW police will implement the most comprehensive security regime that it has over New Year’s Eve,” Mr Lanyon said.

“Our public order and riot squad will be carrying long arms this year, that does not represent any specific threat.

“It is to provide reassurance to the community.”
