Rescuers are racing to reach seven workers trapped inside a flooded gold mine in Laos.
The men became stranded in Xaisomboun province after heavy rain triggered flash flooding, sending water rushing through the underground tunnels.
Authorities say the group had travelled more than 100 metres below ground searching for gold ore when the mine entrance became blocked.
One worker managed to escape and alert officials, launching a major rescue operation involving soldiers, police, medics and local volunteers.
Footage from the scene shows rescue crews navigating narrow, waterlogged passages as pumps work to drain the flooded mine.
Persistent rainfall has continued to hamper efforts, with concerns growing over oxygen levels and rising water inside the cave system.
Specialist rescue teams from Thailand and China have joined Lao authorities in the operation.
The dramatic mission has drawn comparisons to Thailand’s 2018 Tham Luang cave rescue, where a junior football team was trapped underground for more than two weeks.
