Police crackdown at Melbourne shopping centres amid falling numbers | 7NEWS
Victoria Police has launched Operation Pulse, deploying officers to patrol four of Melbourne’s busiest shopping centres including Northland, Highpoint, Eastland and Fountain Gate. The operation has resulted in over 100 arrests and 30 weapons seized in three weeks, including a 15-year-old allegedly carrying a hunting knife. The crackdown comes as full-time police numbers have dropped by nearly 200 officers since Premier Jacinta Allan took office, while Victoria’s population increased by more than 200,000 people and criminal offences rose by over 25 per cent.
