Passengers save 174 lives after co-pilot attacks captain | 7NEWS
A Flydubai Boeing 737 MAX 8 carrying 174 passengers from Dubai to Tel Aviv experienced a mid-air attack when the co-pilot from Oman stabbed the captain and attempted to crash the aircraft, sending it into a death plunge over Saudi Arabia. The Indian pilot Smit Machchhar managed to open the cockpit door while being attacked, allowing passengers including plumber Yaniv Hayoun and two Australians Carol and Steven Moss to subdue the attacker and help level the aircraft. The plane made an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia with its rudder torn off from the violent manoeuvres, while the co-pilot is now being interrogated with investigations underway into how he smuggled a weapon through security.
