Federal politicians are expected to return early to Canberra before Australia Day to pass new legislation on guns and hate speech following the Bondi Beach terror attack. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese continues to resist growing pressure from the Coalition, Teal independents, victims’ families, religious leaders, and legal figures calling for a Commonwealth Royal Commission into the attack. The government maintains its position to proceed with a review of federal agencies instead, while alleged Bondi terrorist Naveed Akram has reportedly been transferred from a prison hospital to Goulburn Supermax.
