Netanyahu accuses Mamdani of ‘fomenting hate’ following NYC mayor calls for his arrest
Benjamin Netanyahu has criticised Zohran Mamdani of “fomenting hate” after being asked if he still intends to come to the city following the New York City mayor’s request for the federal authorities to arrest the Israeli Prime Minister.
The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu in 2024, accusing him of using starvation as a method of warfare and intentionally directing attacks against civilians in Gaza.
Israel has denied allegations of war crimes.
Speaking to Fox News, Netanyahu dismissed the charges as “bogus”, said Mamdani is “trying to turn one group against the other” and confirmed he still intends to travel to NYC to attend the upcoming United Nations General Assembly to “speak the truth (and) speak for Israel”.
Mamdani has clarified his team does not have the independent legal authority to enforce the ICC warrant and urged the federal government to arrest Netanyahu.
US President Donald Trump has reassured the Israeli leader that he will not face arrest in the US.
