Nepalis use ziplines to cross river after bridges washed away by floods

More than a week on from deadly flash floods in Nepal and Tibet, thousands of people remain missing, including 38 Australians, as the death toll reaches at least 1,204 people.

Despite tough and precarious conditions, Nepali villagers are trying to cross the Trishuli River and reach communities by using a zipline after floods washed away bridges.

Cut off by land, those needing urgent treatment, medicine, food and other essentials must be ferried over the waters.

Australian aid supplies aboard a Royal Australian Air Force plane arrived in Nepal yesterday, loaded with more than 1,400 hygiene kits, 2,200 solar lights and phone chargers, hundreds of shelter tool kits, tarps and ropes and more than 500 menstrual hygiene packs. The aid package makes up some of an $11 million pledge by the Australian government.
