Nepal-Tibet floods: The grim task of identifying missing loved ones

WARNING: The next story contains graphic content which some viewers may find distressing.

Almost a week after flash flooding devastated communities along the Nepal-Tibet border, bodies are still being recovered far downstream from where the disaster began.

In Nepal’s Chitwan district, hundreds of bodies that have washed ashore are still awaiting identification – many of them dismembered and decomposed.

Thousands of people have arrived from all over Nepal in the desperate hope of locating the remains of their missing loved ones.

Many have travelled all day, only to leave with no news.

But with no place to store the bodies, authorities have been burying them in temporary mass graves, prompting concerns that Hindu funeral traditions are being ignored.
