Negative gearing changes will not boost housing supply, experts warn
Property Council of Australia Chief Executive Mike Zorbas says government plans to roll back negative gearing would not achieve its goal of boosting housing supply.
“None of the modelling that we’ve seen, and we’ve done modelling with the Housing Industry Association, the Master Builders Association and other industry groups, shows an increase in supply because of changes to negative gearing,” Mr Zorbas told Sky News host Danica De Giorgio.
“In some cases, it’s quite minor, in some cases quite major, that’s why I said to you before, we really do need to see that carve out in the budget.”
