‘Most important technology of our lifetimes’: Labor unveils world-first AI standards
Assistant Science and Technology Minister Andrew Charlton hails artificial intelligence as a once-in-a-generation technology, defending the government’s new AI standards as Australia prepares for soaring demand from data centres.
“Artificial intelligence is a very significant technology; it may be the most important technology of our lifetimes,” Mr Charlton told Sky News Australia’s Political Editor Andrew Clennell.
“We already have more than 200 data centres in Australia; those data centres consume our electricity equivalent to about 2 per cent of our energy grid, and there are projections that that could grow very rapidly over the next ten years.
“This is a world first that the prime minister announced last week, and it’s important that we implement those standards.”
