Manchester vigil for Khamenei crashed by Iranians celebrating Supreme Leader’s death
A vigil in Manchester mourning Iranian supreme leader Ali Khamenei was disrupted after anti-regime protesters crashed the gathering.
Hundreds of counter-protesters blasted celebratory music and waved Israeli, British and pre-revolution Iranian flags outside the event.
Some demonstrators were seen dancing and cheering, with others burning images of Khamenei as they celebrated the cleric’s death.
The vigil had been organised by supporters mourning the longtime Iranian leader following his death from US-Israeli strikes.
Police were deployed to separate the two sides as tensions flared between regime supporters and Iranians celebrating the end of Khamenei’s rule.
