Japan restarts world’s biggest nuclear plant after nearly 15 years since Fukushima catastrophe
Japan is restarting the world’s biggest nuclear power plant after a delay caused by a fault during testing.
The plant has been closed ever since the nuclear disaster in Fukushima nearly 15 years ago.
The powerful Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear plant was switched off in 2011 – it alone could generate a fifth of Australia’s electricity.
Tokyo wants to turn one reactor back on and use the power to meet booming demand.
However, opposition to the reopening remains with some locals unconvinced that the lessons of 2011 have been learned.
