‘Smarter’ than airstrikes: Trump manipulates Iran’s already collapsing economy

News24 contributor Kristin Tate backs the Trump administration’s economic pressure campaign against Iran as an alternative to further military escalation.

“This, in my opinion, is a much smarter pressure point than another round of airstrikes,” Ms Tate told News24 host Chris Kenny.

“Iran’s economy is already in terrible shape, and if you do have some leverage that doesn’t involve putting some American service members at risk, let’s use that.

“There are reports that Chinese banking and financial institutions are not even included in these sanctions.

“The other thing is obviously we don’t want economic warfare just as another holding pattern while we’re waiting for the next escalation.”
