‘It’s a peculiarity’: US government shutdowns aren’t ‘common at all’


United States Studies Centre Associate Harry Melkonian says US government shutdowns are not ‘common at all’ with the political process “normally” reaching “accommodation”.

Mr Melkonian told Sky News Australia, “Republicans had the majority,” but they couldn’t bring the “matter to a vote in the Senate”.

“It takes a super majority to bring the matter to a vote, and the Republicans don’t have a super majority.
