‘Imperilled the lives of US troops’: Pentagon’s ‘Signalgate’ probe concludes
The Pentagon has concluded an eight month into the ‘Signalgate’ controversy, which took place in March this year.
Information shared by War Secretary Pete Hegseth about a pending US military operation in Yemen, which were considered classified, were made public after a journalist was mistakenly added to a Signal group chat.
Had it fallen into the hands of a foreign adversary, it would have “imperilled the lives of US troops”.
The Defence Department inspector general also found that Mr Hegseth used his personal phone for official business, and while he has the power to declassify information, it’s not clear if he’d done that in advance.
