Humiliated Keir Starmer refuses to resign over Mandelson scandal as backlash intensifies
Embattled UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has asserted he will not resign following backlash over the Peter Mandelson scandal.
Starmer has claimed allegations he misled British MPs over the hiring of Mandelson and the UK ambassador to the US have been “put to bed”.
The Prime Minister faced fresh calls to resign after he admitted to making an error in hiring Mandelson, who failed his security vetting.
Starmer accused the Foreign Ministry’s most senior official, Olly Robbins, of failing to inform him of Mandelson’s security clearance issues.
The PM asserted that “all due process” was followed and that he never would’ve hired Mandelson if he knew about the ambassador’s clearance should be denied.
