Hacker blackmailing Origin; teen police chase; woman mistakenly labelled dead by hospital | 7NEWS
Origin Energy faces a major cyberattack, with a hacker calling himself John Doe claiming to have stolen the personal data of 2 million customers, including names, phone numbers, birth dates, addresses, and account details. The hacker is blackmailing the energy giant, giving it a 14-day deadline to settle or face public release of the data. The company has alerted federal authorities and is urgently investigating the breach, which follows a similar attack on the partnered health medical group affecting 21 clinics.
Four youths were arrested in Braeside after allegedly leading police on a high-speed chase through Melbourne’s south-east in a stolen Mazda. Three of the suspects were captured on security cameras casually walking through the streets before calling an Uber to escape. All four are now in custody and being interviewed by detectives.
Michelle Buckley’s medical records were mixed up with another patient at Werribee Hospital, leading police to notify her Queensland family of her death. The woman, who was alive and making pizza at home, learned of the error two weeks later when Mercy Health acknowledged the mistake via email. Ms Buckley is now pursuing legal action and continues to correct her health records two months after the incident
