A 13-metre beached whale carcass at City Beach has attracted great white sharks close to shore, prompting authorities to deploy drumlines. Two great white sharks measuring 3.7 metres were successfully caught, tagged with internal tracking devices, and released to monitor their movements. The 31-tonne whale has drawn thousands of spectators, with some exhibiting dangerous behaviour by climbing on the carcass, prompting authorities to establish an exclusion zone and schedule removal to landfill.
