Fears Nepal’s flood crisis is about to get worse
The Nepal floods have had a devastating impact, with shocking videos and photos showing the scale of the humanitarian crisis.
But experts say this could just be the beginning.
As the death and missing persons tolls continue to rise, there are fears a second flood could take place in Nepal’s north.
Geology experts say mud and debris that swept down the mountains in the first flash flood may have formed a barrier lake at the junction of two rivers that is at risk of overtaking the national dam, which could lead to a second round of flooding.
With rescuers searching for more than 1400 people missing, this couldn’t come at a worse time. Hundreds of bodies have already been recovered under torrents of mud, buried homes and smashed infrastructure.
Here’s a look at where Nepal’s floods crisis is at.
