Elon Musk’s SpaceX rocket has ended up off the coast of Christmas Island
Tech billionaire Elon Musk’s aerospace company SpaceX has retrieved a rocket that splashed down in the Indian Ocean near Christmas Island, a remote territory about 1,500 kilometres off north-west Western Australia.
Locals in the remote territory reportedly lined the rugged coastline to catch a glimpse of the 52-metre-long rocket as it was towed in, with one local saying the community reaction has been “phenomenal”.
The SpaceX website said the company’s Starship spacecraft and super-heavy rocket were a reusable transport system designed to carry crew and cargo into “orbit, the moon, Mars and beyond”.
