El-Sayed’s Democratic primary win soars Republican chances of Michigan upset

Democratic strategist Jim Kessler says Abdul El-Sayed’s Democratic primary win in Michigan boosts Republican chances of an “upset”.

“He is a candidate that, in a normal environment, would not win a general election against a typical republican, and Michigan has nominated a typical Republican,” Mr Kessler told News24.

“No Republican senator has won there since 1994; that’s a long time, but Donald Trump won there as president in 2024.

“So this is a state that Republicans feel in the right environment we could win, and the environment is not good, but the candidates are right for an upset.”
