E-bikes sold in Australia can be easily unlocked to exceed the legal 25 kilometres per hour speed limit using a simple four-digit code. The majority of e-bikes come from one Chinese manufacturer that uses the same code across all devices, allowing riders to bypass safety restrictions with just a few clicks. Following 14 nationwide fatalities involving e-devices, retailers and experts are calling for tougher regulations, while a Gold Coast academy has launched to teach children proper e-bike safety and control.
