Climate protesters interrupt NSW parliament

Eight protesters from activist group Rising Tide crashed Question Time in NSW parliament on Tuesday, throwing pages from government and academic climate reports into the chamber.

One protester climbed over the public gallery barrier and tried to address Premier Chris Minns directly.

The protest action was in opposition to the Minns government’s recent extension for Hunter Valley Operations, which allows it to continue operating its coal mine near the NSW town of Singleton until 2045.
The mine had previously been scheduled to close in December.’
