Dezi Freeman shot dead two Victorian police officers and injured another at his remote Porepunkah property in August last year when they arrived to execute a search warrant for electronic devices as part of a child sex offences investigation. Investigators have since uncovered hundreds of files containing child abuse material on the 56-year-old’s seized devices. Freeman evaded capture for more than 200 days before being shot dead by specialist police after being found living in a shipping container on the Victorian and New South Wales border.
