Ceuta protesters demand remaining migrants leave Spanish enclave

Protesters in Ceuta, Spain’s North African enclave, have voiced their anger over the government’s handling of a migration crisis in July when some 72,000 people crossed from Morocco over 48 hours.

The protest coincided with annual Ceuta Day.
At least 5,000 migrants, including unaccompanied minors, remain stranded in makeshift camps or scattered across streets and beaches, according to Ceuta’s authorities.

Protests accuse Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez of mismanagement and abandonment of Ceuta residents, while the government says right-wing parties are exploiting the crisis.
In a recent address, Sanchez said more than 90% of arrivals were returned within 72 hours, calling it’one of the fastest returns processes in European history’.

He has pledged the publication of a full dossier of documents for public scrutiny.
